MSI is to join the ranks of companies to compete against Asus' fantastic Eee PC. Details are a tad sketchy at the moment but some basic specs. have slipped out.

So, what do we know? Well, the ultra-portable laptop will be called the MSI Wind. It will sport a 10in display and both a 2.5in hard drive and SSD storage option will be available depending which one you fancy. We also know that the initial system will include a respectable 1GB RAM and although MSI won't confirm anything specifically, the general assumption is that MSI will use an Intel Atom processor.

With regard to the Operating system, the Wind is expected to, in a similar vein to the the Eee PC, have a either a custom Linux installation or a Windows XP install, although this will probably be a slightly more costly option. As for the all important battery life, MSI claims the Wind should be up and running for between six and seven hours.

The Wind will be available in a small range of colours with initial reports of black and white versions again along similar lines to Asus' notebook, and should also be priced accordingly to compete with its rivals. Depending on the exact specification chosen, the laptops are expected to range from €299 (£245) to €699 (£572). More information to follow.....
